Not Just Blurred Vision—These 4 Symptoms Could Also Signal Eye Cancer, Doctors Warn

Blurred vision is often blamed on screen time or weak eyesight—but doctors caution that some eye symptoms should never be ignored. In rare cases, they can point to eye cancer. Here are 4 warning signs experts say deserve immediate medical attention:

  1. Sudden Vision Changes
A rapid drop in vision, flashes of light, or seeing dark spots (floaters) that appear suddenly can be a red flag—especially if only one eye is affected.
  2. A Visible Spot or Growth on the Eye
A dark spot on the iris (colored part), white area of the eye, or under the eyelid that grows or changes shape/color over time should be checked.
  3. Persistent Eye Pain or Redness
Ongoing pain, pressure, or redness that doesn’t improve with routine treatment may signal something more serious than an infection.
  4. Bulging Eye or Change in Eye Shape
One eye appearing more prominent than the other, or noticeable changes in eye alignment, can indicate a tumor behind the eye.

Doctor’s Advice:
Eye cancer is rare, but early detection saves vision—and lives. If any of these symptoms last more than a few days or worsen, consult an ophthalmologist immediately. Regular eye checkups are especially important if you have a family history of cancer or prolonged UV exposure.
