Don’t Ignore Pain After the Gym: Know What’s Normal and What’s a Warning Sign

Going to the gym often causes muscle soreness, especially if you are new to exercise or trying a more intense workout. However, not every type of pain after a workout is normal. Understanding the difference between normal muscle soreness and a possible injury is important for protecting your body.

1. Normal Muscle Soreness (DOMS)
After exercise, it is common to feel soreness in your muscles. This is called Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS) and usually appears 12–24 hours after a workout. It happens because tiny muscle fibers get stressed during exercise, especially during new or intense movements.
