These 6 Foods You Should Avoid During Jaundice

When someone has jaundice, the liver becomes weak and struggles to process heavy, oily, or toxin-rich foods. Eating the wrong things can slow recovery and worsen symptoms. Here are 6 foods you should strictly avoid:

1. Oily and Fried Foods

These foods are very hard for the liver to digest. They increase inflammation and can make jaundice last longer. Avoid pakoras, samosas, puri, chips, and fried snacks.

2. Spicy and Heavy Masala Foods

Excess spices overload the liver. Masala-rich gravies, pickles, and spicy curries may worsen digestion and cause acidity, which puts extra pressure on the liver.

3. Red Meat (Mutton, Beef)

Red meat is high in fat and protein, making it extremely difficult for a weak liver to break down. It can worsen fatigue and slow down recovery.

4. High-Fat Dairy (Cream, Butter, Ghee, Cheese)

Heavy dairy increases cholesterol and fat load on the liver. It can interfere with bile flow and worsen jaundice symptoms.

5. Sugary Foods and Sweets

Sugar stresses the liver and can lead to fat buildup. Avoid sweets, chocolates, jaggery-based desserts, bakery items, and sugary drinks.

6. Packaged & Processed Foods

These contain preservatives, artificial colors, and unhealthy fats that are toxic for a weak liver. Avoid instant noodles, chips, biscuits, packaged juices, and processed meats.

Important Tip:

Eat a light, low-fat, high-fluid diet—such as fruits like papaya, coconut water, khichdi, moong dal soup, rice, boiled vegetables—to support quick recovery.
