World Menopause Day 2024: Embracing Hormone Therapy for Women’s Well-Being

World Menopause Day 2024, observed on October 18, highlights the importance of raising awareness about menopause and supporting the health and well-being of women during this life stage. This year’s theme focuses on Menopause Hormone Therapy (MHT), also known as Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT). The International Menopause Society (IMS) aims to provide accurate information, address controversies, and combat misinformation surrounding MHT through events and resources for both healthcare professionals and the public.

Menopause, which typically occurs between ages 40 and 58, brings a range of symptoms, including hot flashes, insomnia, and mood changes. Beyond symptom management, MHT offers long-term benefits such as reducing risks associated with osteoporosis and heart disease, though its use should be personalized based on individual health needs.

IMS encourages participation in World Menopause Day by organizing events, sharing educational resources, and using social media hashtags like #worldmenopauseday2024. They have also released a White Paper to guide healthcare providers and offer balanced insights into MHT practices【7】【8】【9】.

To further spread awareness, the IMS emphasizes community engagement through discussions and workshops, encouraging open dialogue around menopause—a topic often shrouded in stigma. The goal is to ensure women are empowered to make informed health choices during their midlife and beyond【8】【9】.
