Gum Katira (tragacanth gum) is known for its cooling effect and is often used in summer drinks. But it’s not safe for everyone. These 3 types of people should avoid it:
1. People with weak digestion
Gum katira is heavy and takes time to digest. If you already have bloating, gas, or slow digestion, it can make the problem worse. It may cause stomach discomfort, heaviness, or constipation.
2. People with low blood pressure
Gum katira has a natural cooling and mild blood-pressure-lowering effect. For those who already have low BP, it may lead to dizziness, weakness, or fatigue, especially in hot weather.
3. Pregnant or breastfeeding women
There isn’t enough scientific evidence about its safety during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Some traditional beliefs suggest it may affect hormones or digestion, so it’s better to avoid it unless a doctor advises otherwise.
Also be careful if you:
- Have frequent cold/cough
- Take BP or sugar medicines
- Have allergies
Tip: Always soak gum katira properly overnight and consume in small quantities, otherwise it may cause throat blockage or digestion issues.
