Even Mild Heart Weakness May Raise Alzheimer’s Risk, New Study Finds

New research suggests that even a mild decline in heart function could be linked to a higher risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease. When the heart doesn’t pump blood efficiently, the brain may receive less oxygen and fewer nutrients over time. This reduced blood flow can contribute to changes in the brain associated with memory loss and cognitive decline.

Researchers emphasize that this does not mean everyone with mild heart weakness will develop Alzheimer’s. Instead, it highlights the close connection between heart health and brain health. Managing conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, and heart disease, along with regular exercise, a balanced diet, adequate sleep, and avoiding smoking, may help protect both the heart and the brain. More research is still needed to confirm the exact relationship.
