Did You Know? These 12 Points on Your Face Define Your Unique Identity and Remain Remarkably Stable Over Time!

Yes. In biometrics and facial recognition, certain facial landmarks are used to identify a person. These points are based on the structure of your face and tend to remain relatively stable throughout life, although they can change slightly due to aging, weight changes, injury, or surgery.

Commonly used facial landmarks include:

  1. Inner corner of the left eye
  2. Outer corner of the left eye
  3. Inner corner of the right eye
  4. Outer corner of the right eye
  5. Tip of the nose
  6. Base of the nose
  7. Left nostril edge
  8. Right nostril edge
  9. Left corner of the mouth
  10. Right corner of the mouth
  11. Center of the upper lip
  12. Center of the chin

These points help create a unique geometric pattern of distances and angles that can be used for facial recognition.

However, the claim that these 12 points “remain completely unchanged with age” is not entirely accurate. The underlying bone structure changes slowly, but soft tissues, skin elasticity, facial fat, and muscle tone can alter the exact positions and appearance of these landmarks over time. Modern facial recognition systems account for such changes by analyzing many more points—often 68, 128, or even thousands of features.

So, while facial landmarks are useful for identifying individuals, no set of facial points remains perfectly unchanged throughout life.
